{"id":199,"date":"2008-10-17T19:43:24","date_gmt":"2008-10-17T09:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yk.mynetscene.com\/places\/?p=199"},"modified":"2008-10-17T19:43:24","modified_gmt":"2008-10-17T09:43:24","slug":"mount-mackenzie-granite-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yktravelphoto.com\/places\/mount-mackenzie-granite-drive\/199","title":{"rendered":"Mount Mackenzie Granite Drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"550\" height=\"315\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206\" title=\"img_0579-img_0586\"  itemprop=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yktravelphoto.com\/places\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/img_0579-img_0586.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mt Mackenzie Drive is one of the main\u00c2\u00a0tourist attractions of Tenterfield district, small town next to the New South Wales\u00c2\u00a0and Queensland border located in the Northern Tablelands.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"550\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-205\" title=\"img_0547-img_0553\"  itemprop=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yktravelphoto.com\/places\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/img_0547-img_0553.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To get to the beginning of the drive, follow \u00c2\u00a0the Molesworth Street from the Tenterfield Town Centre and then Sunnyside Loop Road following signs, turn left into Kildare Road after 8 kilometres.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-202\" title=\"_mg_0604\"  itemprop=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yktravelphoto.com\/places\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/_mg_0604.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>38 kilometres long (about an hour) drive follows a road through a number of sheep and cattle farms and gives an opportunity to view some unusual granite rock formations scattered across this area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-201 alignleft\" style=\"margin-right: 10px;\" title=\"_mg_0572\"  itemprop=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yktravelphoto.com\/places\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/_mg_0572.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"413\" \/>Some of these\u00c2\u00a0rock outcrops are quite spectacular and have their own names:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Doctors Nose, 1115 meters above the sea level<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Small Bald Rock, a tiny version of the Bald Rock &#8211; the largest granite monolith in Australia (located to the north of Tenterfield)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Draining Rock,\u00c2\u00a0the largest exposed granite rocks in this district, after the famous Bald Rock.<\/p>\n<p>These spots are marked by signs installed next to the road, but,\u00c2\u00a0unfortunately, these signs are quite damaged and are not really useful.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of relying on these signs, I&#8217;d recommend getting a leaflet with a map from the Tenterfield Visitor Centre that discribes this drive in details.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-204\" title=\"crw_0522\"  itemprop=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.yktravelphoto.com\/places\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/crw_0522.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the drive, once you&#8217;ve reached a sealed road, turn right for a lookout on the Mount Mackenzie Summit, 1298 meters above the sea level.
